In July, Vish and I will be celebrating 10 wonderful years of being married. We were lucky enough to be able to celebrate early by jetting away from cold Minneapolis at the end of February. My parents came up to take care of the boys while we headed to California. We spent a few days in Laguna Beach and a few days in Palm Springs.
Our trip started off bright and early on Wednesday morning February 28th with a 6:00 AM Flight. We arrived in Palm Springs around lunch time, picked up our rental car and headed out to Laguna Beach. The drive was very pretty, driving out of the desert to the coast. We stopped to eat lunch at Loco Burrito in Moreno Valley. It was tasty; but we mostly just enjoyed being able to eat outside in the sunshine. We got to Laguna Beach around 3:00 and checked into our hotel, the Laguna Beach House. Our hotel was one block away from the beach, which was absolutely beautiful. After relaxing for a little bit we went for a jog overlooking the ocean and through the amazing neighborhoods. For dinner that night, Vish surprised me with reservations at Watermarc in downtown Laguna, only a short walk from the hotel. We celebrated our anniversary and my birthday with a yummy dinner of Sizzling Shrimp, Gnocchi, and Paella. Everything was delicious!
On Thursday we decided to go hiking, because there were so many trails around with ocean and canyon views. We ended up going on a very fun, somewhat challenging 10 mile hike all through Crystal Cove State Park. It was beautiful and a great way to spend the day. We headed back for a late lunch and rewarded our efforts with a tasty meal at Husky Boys Burgers.
Back at the hotel, we enjoyed the hot tub (even though it was only 60 degrees outside), relaxed and headed out for dinner and drinks. We stopped at Las Prisa’s for a drink. It turned into an interesting experience when we met a couple on their first date, who convinced the band to play us an anniversary song that we could all dance too. We ate dinner that night at Nick’s Restaurant, another very tasty experience.
Friday morning we decided to do another short hike closer to the coast, to get some different views from the day before. We also spent some time on the beach enjoying the scenery. It was sunny and beautiful, and a great way to end our time in Laguna Beach.
After the hike, we headed back to Palm Springs, stopping at In-N-Out for lunch. Our hotel in Palm Springs, the Colony Palms was very neat, with a luxurious pool, hot tub and beautiful hotel grounds. We were able to enjoy the hot tub and drinks by the pool, but unfortunately even with the sunshine, it was still too cold for us to get in the pool. Our first night in Palm Springs we wandered down to Palm Canyon Drive, enjoying a margarita at the Blue Coyote before deciding to eat at JusTapas. After dinner we went to the movie Game Night, for a relaxing first night in Palm Springs.
On Saturday morning, we decided to head up to the Aerial Tram. The Aerial Tram (from the website) is the world’s largest rotating tram car—travels over two-and-one-half miles along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon, transporting riders to the pristine wilderness of the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. The experience going up was amazing (slightly scary for me being afraid of heights). Luckily, Vish had looked at the weather, so we knew it would be cold at the top. It was about 30 degrees and there was snow! We hiked around at the top of the mountain all morning, until we got too cold. The views were breathtaking and it was definitely worth the cold trip.
The rest of our time in Palm Springs was spent relaxing by the pool with drinks, eating and hiking. On Sunday afternoon, we enjoyed lunch at Frankinbun before heading to the airport. Frankinbun was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and was a place we had picked out to try before our trip.
We had an amazing trip, despite the weather being not quite as warm as we had hoped. It was so fun to be able to spend time with Vish enjoying beautiful California, celebrating our first decade of married life! I cannot wait for the next ten years!
